Invitation for Collision Collective Members - Free Event

Hi All,

I’ve been a member of Collision Collective for a number of years and I recently became the artist in residence at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation in Waltham, MA.  Part of my job is to do outreach to the tech art and maker communities, and that means I get to combine business with pleasure and invite you all to a special free event at the museum.  It’s going to be Saturday, January 28th from 6:00-8:00pm.

The museum will be closed to the general public but we’ll be giving tours of the galleries including our functioning belt driven Victorian machine shop and our temporary exhibition ‘Steampunk Form and Function II” which includes work by members of Collision Collective.  We’re also arranging a number of special treats for the event.  We will have members of the New England Model Engineering Society running coal driven steam engines.  We’ll be getting one of our new to the museum linotypes running which involves boiling lead.  We’ll have a couple of our artists on hand to talk about their work at the museum including Marjorie Minkin, who along with Phish bassist Mike Gordon and electronics designer Jamie Robertson created our current interactive art exhibit “Another Side of In.”  We will also have Collision Collective member Wayne Strattman on hand who will be giving a sneak peak at some of the plasma globes, mesmer tubes or Jacob’s ladders that will be in his upcoming spring exhibit “Self Illumination.”

The museum doesn’t have any specific goal for this event other than bringing together like minded communities that we hope will be involved with the museum in the future.  We’ll be serving refreshments and giving you an opportunity to network with other members of Collision Collective, and members of Artisan’s Asylum Inc. and Sprouts & Co. who have also been invited.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail me or contact the museum directly: 781-893-5410.

I look forward to seeing you at the museum or if you can’t make it, at the Collision Collective 17 opening,

Dave
