 ∆NIM∆LS

This piece investigates the perceptual states ac-tivated while engaged with mobile technology. Ibelieve the human relationship with such devices iscurrently in the process of replacing our relation-ship with natural living organisms such as animalsand nonhuman environments. Some of the rolesof cell phones and laptops in the 21st century havebecome similar to the purposes of work horses anddomesticated pets prior to the digital age. By that Imean to say that we use these devices for work andpleasure, and indeed form a kind of bidirectionalrelationship with them in order to fulfill our needfor connection in a growingly disparate world.

The use of these devices as mediums for documen-tation and surveillance is a large part of this work. The possibility of capturing our momentary envi-ronment to be contained and redistributed within adigital medium changes the perception of our dayto day landscapes. Through the lens of the digitaldevice humans or able to continually reprocess andredefine what constitutes the content of our lives.

The use of algorithmic processes within design practice often focuses on exploiting the generative (or constructive) aspects of those processes. Less often does design reveal the degenerative (or destructive) capabilities of algorithms. (de)generative x, a temporal typographic framework that can be applied to many existing typefaces, represents an exploration of both the generative and degenerative aspects of algorithmic processes.

(Under) Arch no. 25

“(Under) Arch no. 25” is a new media work made of digital generative animation and video footage, that is intended to explore past, present, and imaginative futuristic transformation of the historical site of Le Grand Pont (The Great Bridge) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The imagery of the work originates from photos and footage taken in Le Grand Pont and its surrounding district of the Flon. Patterns, colors, shapes and scratches of the bridge’s Roman-style stones were digitally traced and documented. These characteristics referred as “footprints” were then animated with shape algorithms and recomposed with the original footage to seek out new dialogues of perpetual movement and change.

Aiming to engage with the site’s evolving and dynamic nature of today, the work searches to bring a new reality into existence - a temporary equilibrium where shapes, forms and meanings are in a constant state of transformation, and where beginnings and endings are blurred of into some endless new possibilities.

Analog Internet

Analog Internet

Analog Internet is a video-sculpture that reveals a pyramid of three-dimensional rendered CRT televisions, each with a different cat video appropriated from YouTube playing. This is physical model of the internet: an Egyptian site of worship for cats.  The web has been obsessed with cats since it fell into the hands of consumers in the mid-90's and has developed in such a way as to most effectively share cat videos.

LA NOYADE (The Drowning)

The shootings of this video art creation have been done in July 2012 in the port of Nice (France). Lit by a bright early afternoon light, they focus on the links that hinder boats in order to prevent them from drifting and shipwreck. The sounds are only those taken by the camera's microphone and transformed. In a distorted temporality, image and sound undergo a non linear rhythm which progression obeys the different phases of the slow immersion of the point of view.

My iPhone is Everything v.2

In this never-before-exhibited body of video work, developed thought the generous support of The Vermont Studio Center, iPhones and iPads are re-cast as objects that they could never truly be. As these devices increasingly become our do-anything Swiss army knives in an increasingly digitized world, My iPhone is Everything asks, what would a world look like in which we push these limits to their absolute extremes? What is it that we are ultimately willing to believe technology can do?

On the Strip--Las Vegas

On the Strip--Las Vegas

Part of the geometrically patterned modern landscape series "From Las Vegas to Dubai, “On the Strip” is based on footage I filmed with my camera wedged in the dash of a rental car as I drove down the Strip from the Venetian to the Bellagio. The pacing is based on this drive, which includes turning the corner to merge with Strip traffic and the stop and go of lights. Neon, signs, crowds of people, palm trees, and color of the desert light all caught my attention. The final piece features multiple and edited video clips which are layered and viewed within each other. The scale and timing of each layer is controlled to recreate the sensation of immersion in this world of visual stimulus overload.

As though on a rollercoaster at an amusement park, RIP Geocities is a ride through what Hollywood envisioned as cyberspace in the 1990's. Geocities, a website that hosted personal homepages for free, was a locus of creative Internet energy in the 1990's. This video abstractly represents and mourns the loss of not only the Geocities website, but also the culture it engendered teeming with polyphonic, hand-coded web presences.

A series of nocturnal projections, site-specific video interventions in the urban landscape, present the conversation between the images and the city environment.

In a weird atmosphere, the project set out for an exciting adventure. Do the images represent the secret signals, an extraordinary parade or a silent protest? By means of guerrilla action, we use the high power projector to project the images in motion with high mobility to display a stunning visual firework and present the conversation between the images and the city environment.
