About the Presenter
Henry Kaufman has been working in computer graphics and interactive experiences for over twenty years. Whether it is designing innovative interactive exhibits or creating technology to make those exhibits more engaging, Henry considers the visual aesthetics of a problem as well as the technical hurdles that need to be solved. His eclectic experience includes teaching Flash animation and programming at the Massachusetts College of Art and researching Fractals with Benoit Mandelbrot at Yale. He has directed exhibits, created special effects for commercials and computer games, researched and published in computer graphics, physics, computer music and games journals and he holds several patents. His work has earned many awards including the Muse award for museum exhibits, design awards from ID, Communication Arts, Applied Arts, and HOW magazines, several Clios, and an Emmy nomination. Henry's interactive art installations have been shown at several museums and galleries including the deCordova, Liberty Science Center, Axiom, Art Interactive, Collision Collective and others. In 2007 Henry founded Tactable to create compelling multi-touch table and wall experiences. He received a double B.A. with honors, magna cum laude in Visual Arts and Computer Science and an M.S. degree in Computer Science from Brown University.

Tactable was started by Henry Kaufman and Tinsley Galyean, who have worked together creating interactive exhibits since 1997. Tactable grew out of multi-touch technology that Henry created while at Nearlife during work on some innovative interactive exhibits. In 1999, Nearlife worked with the MIT Media Lab to develop one of the first public interactive touch tables for the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In 2007, Tactable was formed to focus primarily on creating unique large-scale multi-touch experiences, which allowed us to build on our unique set of skills and insights and start with a large toolkit for making these experiences intuitive and evocative. We have designed and created interactive installations for many museum establishments, including the Museum of Science and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, the Liberty Science Center in N.J, New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Detroit Institute of Art; for arts organizations such as Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas; as well as for companies such as Sprint, HP, Hong Kong Jockey Club, British Telecom, and Accenture.
